Charles Smith
Born 13 Mar 1864; died 20 Sep 1918 - 54 years old. My
great-grandfather; I've been told by several relatives that he was a
very large man and very strict. My Aunt Helen was around four years
old when he died; and she remembered him vaguely, she said he was
very sweet to her. She was his first grandchild. |
Susan Pendergrast,
born Dec 1865; died August 1936 - 71 years old wife of Charles Smith
above. Her mother, Laura Virginia Albert had died the previous March
of the same year; she was 98 years old. |
Thomas Smith - first born - Born 30 Jul 1888; died May 21, 1961 - 72
years old. |

Fern Smith - Born
1890; died 1969 - 79 years old. Second born of nine children, one of
two daughters born to Charles Smith and Susan Pendergrast. She
married at 40 to A. Hjalmar REHN. Born in 1886. A. Hjalmar died in
1959, he was 73. |
Edwin "Eddie" Smith ~
Born on 31 Jul 1892, married Leota Peters they never had any
children. Leota died and Eddie lived the last ten years of his life
with my Aunt Helen. |

Charles SMITH. Born in 1894. Leo Charles died in 1973, he was 79.
Leo Charles married Ethel LEVERENZ, daughter of William T. LEVERENZ
& Emma STREBING. This couple had Shirley and Sandra. |

Donovan Smith - Born 17 Feb 1902; died
27 Sep 1980 - 78 years old. Married several times and had Alice and
Susie by his first wife. |
George Sadler Smith - Born 16 Jun 1895;
died 1969 - 74 years old. He married "Minnie Smith" below (no
relation to our line). I don't believe they had any children. |
Austin Smith - Born 1904; died 1986 - 82 years old. He never
married. |

Minnie Smith Sister-in-law to Charles Smith, his brother
George Sadler Smith married "Minnie Smith" left. There were
two Minnie Smith's in the family, one blood and the other was not. The
one on the left here is the one that married into the family. |
Alice Louise &
Virginia "Susie" Smith, their father, Donovan Smith, his mother,
Susan Pendergrast, and her mother, Laura Virginia Albert, the last
being born in 1838 in Kentucky; family tradition states she was the
first white woman in the Illinois area and she followed a wagon
train on foot. |

married to Ethel Case first and had three children; Charles, Helen
and Ray, Ray died as an infant. The other two were my father's
half-sister and brother. |
Minnie Smith, born 1897; died 1965 - 68
years old. She sang at her father's funeral, supposed to have a
beautiful voice. |
Clara "Belle" Smith, born 24 Mar 1861;
died 20 Sep 1918 - 57 years old. Sister to Charles Smith above and
daughter of Thomas Smith and Martha Sadler. She married Frank
Stewart and I don't believe they had any children. |

Patrick Pendergrast, my paternal great,
great grandfather. Born in 1838 in Kentucky. He and his brother
James Pendergrast moved to Vermillion county, Illinois from
Kentucky. |
