Snyder Chapel, Orange Co., Indiana

Snyder's Chapel cemetery located in Orange County, Indiana, I visited here in June, 2004 with my cousin Gary Buchanan. I found this picture of a church that used to be there, there is none there now.

Snyders Chapel ~ Deed Bk. S, Pg. 53. Morgan Twp. June 12, 1846. John Smith conveys to Aquilla Standaford, Aaron Devina, Samuel Horner, Squire H. Standaford of Harrison Co., and Preston Stucker, of Washington Co. Trustees in trust of a certain lot of land to wit: Commencing at the SW corner of the NW Quarter of SEct. 26, Twp. 1, Range 4, thence running East ..., intersecting the West line of said Quarter of Sect . 10, ten rods North from place of beginning ..., containing forty nine rods. That the officers in trust shall erect and build a house or place of worship for the use of the members of the Methodist Episcopal Church.

Deed Bk. S, Pg. 50. Aug. 18, 1846. Samuel Horner and wife Polly, convey to Aquilla Standaford, Aaron Devina, Samuel Horner and Squire Standaford of Harrison Co. and Preston Stucker of Washington Co., a certain piece of land, to wit: Commencing at the SE corner of the NE Quarter orf Sect. 27, Twp. 1, Range 4 ..., containing eighty rods. Corydon Republican, Nov. 1876. "The new M. E. Church building on the side of the old Snyder Chapel Church, Greenville Circuit, will be dedicated at 10:30 o'clock A. M. on the 19th. Nov. 1876. Rev. I. N. Thompson, Presiding elder, of the New Albany District, officiating. All are cordially invited to attend." This church has been discontinued.

Snider's Chapel, Morgan Township, Harrison County, Indiana

Snyder's (or Snider's) Chapel M. E. Church is located in the extreme northeast corner of Harrison county, IN., about three miles east of Palmyra and two miles north of Bradford in Section 27, Township 1 South, Range 4 east. Israel Ransom (1760-1839 is buried here.
